The Pride return to Long Field for game two of the three-game CAA series tomorrow with a 1 p.m. Senior Ryan Dunn ( East Islip, NY) dropped to 0-5 on the season, allowing nine runs (five earned) on six hits over 2.1 innings. Sophomore Kurt Houck improved his record to 3-6 for James Madison, allowing nine five runs on nine hits over seven innings. Freshman shortstop Dion Pouncil ( Chicago, IL) drilled a two-RBI single up the middle, allowing Kougasian and Ademkiewicz to cap off the scoring at 21-8. Swanson walked Legregni, sending Cole home to make the score 21-6.
Kougasian singled to left field to load the bases for sophomore third baseman Tom Legregni ( Paramus, NJ). After Campana grounded out to start off the ninth inning, relief pitcher Allie Swanson walked juniors Dave Cole ( Teaneck, NJ) and Felix Ademkiewicz ( Commack, NY). In the top of the ninth inning, the Pride was able to pick up three runs to cut the lead to 21-8. The Dukes tacked on seven more runs to take a 21-5 lead going into the eighth inning. James Madison extended its lead to 14-5 with five runs on three hits and two errors in the fourth inning. The Dukes used a seven-run rally in the bottom of the inning to take a 9-5 lead that was initiated with a two-RBI double from Garner. With two outs and the bases loaded, Campana singled on a 3-1 pitch, sending Mentrasti home to bring the score to 5-2. Sophomore centerfielder Nick Panzarella ( Three Bridges, NJ) hit an RBI single to left field, scoring Kougasian, putting the Pride up 4-2.
Campana drove in two runs by hitting a double to right center on a 1-2 pitch to score senior right fielder Patrick Rogers (Centereach, NY) and Carroll to give the Pride a 3-2 lead.Īfter three quick ground-outs in the bottom of the second, the Pride stretched its lead to 5-2 in the third. The Pride responded in the second inning when freshman catcher George Carroll sent a double down the left field line to score sophomore second baseman Chris Mentrasti (Hartsdale, NY), putting the Pride on the scoreboard, 2-1. The Dukes added one more run to its total as Garner crossed home plate after a single from senior left fielder Mitchell Moses, bringing the score to 2-0.
